For the past two years I have been going on vacations during November since the summer is the busy season for the company I work for.  So we don’t have the opportunity to take holidays until the winter months and therefore I have been exploring other countries besides my own to be my vacation destination of choice.

Last year, I decided to take a trip to Australia and I instantly fell in love with the country.  Not only is it the nicest place I’ve ever been in the world, but I can see myself retiring there someday.

So this year, I’ve decided to return to Australia and instead of just staying a couple of weeks, I will be finding work in Australia to pay for my longer than average vacation.

I have been browsing the construction jobs and trade jobs in Australia while visiting job listing websites and I have applied for some of them that are available in the upcoming months.  If everything goes as planned, I will be able to work while I am there and offset the costs of my holidays through the earnings from my job.  If things work out well, I think this would be the way that I go on holidays in the future.

One of the perks of my job in is that we get staff discounts on vacations.  Not only is this a great excuse to take a holiday, but it also makes the price of taking a vacation cheap enough so as to not hurt your finances too much.

In fact, by taking these cheap holidays, it not only makes us more productive workers, but we also consider it to be very much like having a bonus each year.

In the past year, have taken advantage of the discount to get cheap flights to Turkey which is one of my favorite travel destinations.  I spent a lot of time in Icmeler Turkey as I have family there and I also enjoy sitting on their beaches.

If it wasn’t for the staff discount, chances are that we would only be able to afford one vacation per year.  If that was the case, I don’t think I would be as productive in the workplace.

One of the most frustrating things that bother me is when I have to charge a hotel guest the regular rate for their room.  You see, I work at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas as a front desk clerk and it is my job to assign rooms to our guests.

Instead of taking a summer vacation this summer, I decided that I should maybe find a summer job that was an area of the world that I would be interested in visiting.  This way, it would turn into some sort of working vacation, that would not only put money in my pocket, but allow me to enjoy my summer.

So I have been looking at all the online job sites at opportunities for employment in foreign countries.  Specifically, I’ve been looking at working in hotels or resorts, where accommodations are provided.  I figured that way, I would get to me more English speaking people as well as enjoy all the amenities at a resort or hotel would offer.

I think I found a job to apply for at the Seminyak Bali villas, a luxurious resort on the island of Bali.  It looks think they have many different openings and I will be sure to apply for all of them in hopes that it will be the working vacation in my dreams.

It seems like every year we do the same thing for our vacation.  There really is no variety as we just take our camper out to the lake and stay for the week.  Sure, for some people, that is a good enough getaway, but for me, I always come home a little disappointed.  I just think it is time we try something new.

So I have been looking everywhere to find that new, perfect vacation for us to go on.  Sure, my wife still wants to go camping, but I need to get away somewhere different.

I was really excited when I found a website that had details about villa holidays - they not only looked nice, but it would be a change to do something different.  Even though I still have to talk it over with my wife, I think that it will be a great change for us - now all I have to do is convince her that we need to go.

Instead of planning my last trip through a travel agent and just going for a “regular” trip, I thought that I should spice things up a bit.  You see, I have spent most of my life making safe, unadventurous choices.

But no longer.

The inspiration for the change was the trips I found at an adventure travel portal.  You see, they had trips  that were off of the beaten path, designed to make your heart pound with excitement.  Sure, if you wanted to go look at museums and do other boring things, you could always just go on one of those “normal” trips.

I still haven’t quite decided on which trip to take, but I know it will be fun.  I think that I might even get some friends together and we could go do an adventure together - just like back when we were kids.  Maybe I should do that before I choose where to go.

I think I have to be more careful about what I read.  You see, I was reading some Las Vegas Reviews online late last night and I fell asleep at the computer.  At least that is what I would guess, as that is where I woke up.

But needless to say, I had a strange dream about becoming a travel reporter who was doing a story on the many Las Vegas Hotels.  I guess that it was my first assignment, so I was given the “hard” task of checking them out.

During the work, I was able to try out all the restaurants, shows, and venues the city had to offer.  Even though most of it was amazing, there were some that were kind of nasty.  You see, my assignment was to checkout every hotel in the city.

I was rudely awakened to my head on the keyboard - I think that I might just have to plan a trip to Vegas now.

I have always been a huge fan of Jane Austen. I remember the first time I ever read Sense and Sensibility. It was the first time I was absolutely in love with a book. That was before I read Emma, which is my all-time favorite book in the world. She is such a romantic author and I can see myself as a character in her stories.

Last year for my birthday, my husband arranged for me and my girlfriend to go on one of those Jane Austen tours and it was so amazing. I had the best time and I truly think that she is one of the most brilliant and inspiring people that ever lived.

I hope to go again one day, but for now I am content to read and reread her books, so that I can fall in love all over again. One thing is for sure and that is the fact that I will always be her biggest fan.

I received a phone call last night from my sister Jennifer.  I haven’t talked to her for a long time, and I had to ask how she was.  We exchanged small talk, and then she told me something shocking:

She was in Italy.

What?  I was shocked.  I know that she has wanted to travel Italy for many years, I just never thought that she would do it.

Talking to her a bit, I found out that she had taken an opportunity to go to Milan with the art college that she is enrolled in.  They got a discount on the travel rates and accommodations, so she leaped at the opportunity.

All she could talk about was the numerous sightseeings and attractions in Italy.  Mostly the discussion was around art and sculptures, but she talked a mile a minute about everything she had seen.

But, we had to cut the call short, as she had to go.  I can’t wait to see the pictures she brings back - her trip sounds amazing.

In some respects I am happy I don’t have a lot to do today.  It is nice to have a relaxing day of sorts – as compared to our ever busy society.  But with the good, comes the bad:  I am doing something I don’t really like today.

Now, you will probably think that it isn’t bad at all, but it is more that I don’t like it: calling to reserve a car rental in both Orlando and Miami.  Call me a baby if you will, but I like to use the phone to call friends, but when I call a business I just get nervous.  I have been like that for as long as I can remember – and even with practice, it is still a problem for me.

Before I will be making calls, I am just going to look online for companies that rent cars in those areas.  That way I can make a list of numbers, and hopefully get through my task as quick as I can.  I learned quickly that depending how you ask a search engine a question, your results will vary.  For example, “car rental Miami” didn’t quite give me what I was looking for, but “car rentals Miami” was right on the button.  Learning from this experience, I found some good prospects searching for “car rentals Orlando”.

So, now that I have my list of numbers, all I have to do is call… maybe I can do that later (procrastinating never hurt anyone, right?).
