Adding a Christmas Village to our Mantle

Posted By admin on December 3, 2008 @ 10:04 am

In our house, Christmas is a time of joyous celebration and family.  We take the time to do as many things together – everything from the Christmas baking to decorating the tree.

This year, we have decided to add a new tradition with the addition of some pieces to create a Lemax Christmas Village in our own home.  I have a good friend that has had one for a number of years, and lately I have been noticing how much joy it brings to his kids, so I hope it does the same for mine.

We will be setting it up tonight on the mantle above the fireplace – though it will be small this year, if it goes well, we will be adding to it each year for years to come.

Getting a Discount on Lunch

Posted By admin on August 3, 2008 @ 12:07 pm

Usually after church on Sunday, our family goes out for lunch.  This is a great opportunity for us to catch up with our friends and see how their week went.  It is also the only day of the week where we have the opportunity to be together as a family, and the kids love to go out with their mom and dad.

If you have children, you know how expensive it can be to take them out for dinner.  For us, it seems that it has gotten to the point where our kids eat more than we do, and it is getting rather expensive to go.

A couple of weeks ago, my wife was using her coupon toolbar to see if we could get a deal on some of the local restaurants.  Since she is such a fan of coupons, it came as no surprise to me that she would try to find a deal.

As it turns out, there were a number of dining coupons available for restaurants in our area, and it has reduced our bills immensely.  Besides, who doesn’t want to get a discount on their lunch?

Great Deals Online for Disney World Tickets

Posted By admin on July 25, 2008 @ 7:04 pm

Ever since we had children, the price to go on a vacation has become more and more of an issue.  Instead of saving up for a month to go away, we now have to save up for almost a year just so we can go way for a couple weeks.

In an effort to make our vacations more friendly our pocketbooks, we have been looking online for deals and coupons that we can use to reduce the cost of our trips.  So far this is work pretty good and we are currently doing research and how we can save money for our trip to Disney World and the inevitable purchase of Disney tickets.

From our research online, we learned that you can get Hopper tickets that are sort of an add-on to the regular tickets which allows you to visit as many attractions in one day without having to buy new tickets for each one.  This is very important for us since our kids have different interests and they of all suggested that we go to different attractions while we are there.

If you’re heading down to Disney World in the future, I would suggest you look into purchasing Hopper tickets and save yourself some money.  Visit the following site and read more about them.

A Permanent Fix

Posted By Twyla on July 21, 2008 @ 6:34 am

My son started wearing glasses when he was four years old. When he was twelve, he wanted to get contacts because he felt like he was ridiculed because of the glasses. At sixteen, he decided that he wanted a permanent fix with laser eye surgery.

I started looking into laser eye surgery prices and found that it was quite affordable. We buy him new glasses and contact lenses every year, so it would actually be a cheaper alternative in the long run. After some discussion, my husband and I decided that he could have the surgery.

I made an appointment for him with a laser eye surgery doctor and after an examination, the doctor said that the surgery would be no problem at all. He booked in for the procedure and everything went well. He is happy with the results and we are glad that we could do something to make his life a little bit easier.

Getting Medical Procedures Abroad

Posted By admin on June 28, 2008 @ 3:21 am

One of the most frustrating things for me is the price of certain surgeries in my home country.  Sure, it is nice that we can get some of these procedures done here, but quite frankly, when it comes to the price, most of us cannot afford it.

This has lead many people to look for ways to get similar services without the costs.  Sure, it would be nice if there was some way that you could shop around in your neighborhood and pick the cheapest rate, but that is not the case.

In response to this need, many people have taken advantage of medical tourism Asia, where they take a trip to an Asian country that offers the type of procedure that they need, and pay a reduced rate for the services.  This not only saves them money, but quite often can reduce waiting times as well.

So the next time you need a medical procedure, don’t forget to shop around other countries - you might just find yourself a better deal.

Special Treat for Mum

Posted By Deb Gallardo on May 21, 2008 @ 2:26 pm

Your mum’s sixtieth birthday is coming up and you and your siblings are planning a special event. She has always sacrificed for the five of you, and she’s worked hard all her life. For once you want to treat her like a queen..

You discover a castle along the Kent coastline that has been converted into a hotel and restaurant. Your younger brother wants to hire two Hummer limos for the family. Your younger sister, ever the practical one, searches the Internet for “limo hire Kent” and finds exactly the type of limo hire your brother was hoping for.

Your older sister shops for new clothing and luggage for Mum. Your older brother says, “Whatever it takes to make this special. We owe her.”

All goes as you planned. But the best memories are not of the luxuries themselves, but of your mum’s reactions, from disbelief, to shock, to wonder, to delight. She will take the memories of that weekend, to clasped to her bosom, to her grave - may it be many years hence.

Better Late than Never

Posted By Twyla on April 27, 2008 @ 2:57 pm

A while back, our town announced that they were going to start paying people who had solar powered homes to put power back into the grid. I had never thought too much about solar power before that point and it got me to do a lot of thinking and a lot of research as to the benefits and drawbacks of solar power.

When I realized that the benefits far outweighed any drawbacks, I decided that I would try to find a solar system wholesaler and start converting my home. I found a very reputable company and had them come and do the installation. It went very smoothly and I am very happy with the results.

I remember the first check I got form the power company. It was such a nice change to receive a check from them rather than get a bill in the mail. I wish that I had done this years ago, but am happy in the fact that it is better late than never and I am looking at other ways to make my home more earth friendly.

Getting a Second Degree Online

Posted By admin on April 22, 2008 @ 11:33 pm

Even though I have been working on a degree while attending college, I thought that I could maybe get another degree that complements the one I am working on.  I have been taking my education degree, so I thought that a math degree would be a perfect match for it.

But, I know that the math program at my college is one of the worst in the country, and that is definitely not what I want to do.  So, I have been looking at getting an online bachelors degree from Virginia College Online.

From all the reviews that I have read about their college, they are very highly regarded and even offer the best Health care degrees online out of all of the colleges in the country.

I feel that they would be a great match for the goals I have for my second degree and I have requested more information about their course offerings.  Who knows, I might find myself needing to study during the summer.

Keeping Out Of Trouble with Credit Cards

Posted By admin on April 18, 2008 @ 12:33 pm

It has been awhile since I received my first credit card, and I can remember that I was so excited.  In some respects it felt like moment where I joined the club with all the other adults who had credit cards.  Even though I was able to get a credit card, it didn’t mean that I knew how to use it properly.  I quickly racked up a balance on the card and eventually my account was sent to collections.

Even though I was eventually able to clear that up and pay off my debt, I still felt that I was not able to control myself if I had a credit card.  What they really needed was some sort of solution as it is very handy to have a credit card around.

While looking at a credit card ratings website, I found that they had such a thing as prepaid credit cards where I could put a cash balance on the card and I would only be able to spend what I put on it.  This way, I can enjoy the convenience of having a credit card without having the responsibility.  Even though I don’t use it that much, it has made sure the my credit account will never be sent to collections again.

Sharing my Knowledge

Posted By Twyla on April 14, 2008 @ 2:54 pm

The other day when I went to the library to research stock investments, I ran into an old friend and we decided to go for coffee.  It was great to catch up on old times as we had not seen each other in many years.  It was interesting to see what had happened in his life since the last time I saw him.

When we were discussing what I did in my life he had a lot of questions about the stock research that I do, which basically allows me to not have to go to a 9-to-5 job.  I really love my life and the fact that I have created the exact life I said I would.

He then went on to ask me what my stock pick of the day was as he thought it might be a little bit of fun to start seriously investing the way I had.  I have no problems offering tips my friends as it really isn’t going to affect any of the money that I am going to make.
