Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma: A Rare Form of Cancer

Posted By Woodrow Underling on May 28, 2009 @ 5:21 am
by Woodrow Underling

Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) represents a diverse group of cancers caused by exposure to benzene that encompass any lymphoma with the exception to Hodgkins lymphoma. Although several types of non-Hodgkins lymphoma are known, they are generally characterized by the rate at which they progress.

Lymphocytes, a white blood cell type, are said to be the origins of lymphoma, which in turn is a rare cancer type. Throughout the years, experts have discovered a number of non-hodgkin’s lymphoma subtypes by extensive research. These subtypes are primarily classified according to how aggressive they act, and the rate at which they progress.

Less aggressive forms of non-Hodgkin lymphomas could be grouped in with other chronic diseases, and these can last for many, many years depending upon how effective treatment is. Non-Hodgkin lymphomas can be treated by combinations of chemotherapy, monoclonal antibodies, immunotherapy, radiation, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Patients with less-aggressive forms of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma suffer from the disease for an extended period of time; the aggressive form, on the other hand, can lead to death in only a short span of time.

Benzene Exposure’s Link to Lymphoma

Lymphoma is a cancer type that originates from a type of white blood cell called lymphocytes. The first form of lymphoma was discovered and classified by a British physician named Thomas Hodgkin in 1832.

The Rappaport Classification, which was projected by Henry Rappaport, became the acknowledged categorization of lymphomas other than that of Hodgkin’s between 1956 and 1966. NHL then proceeded in the assistance of the definition of three other lymphoma types, shortly after the Rappaport Classification’s publication in 1982.

Doctors and experts in recent years have considered the presence of a common denominator linking benzene and lymphoma. Commonly used in drugs, rubbers and pesticides, benzene is a chemical that has been recognized as a carcinogen.

A majority of those who have been exposed to benzene have developed some form of leukemia, which has greatly altered their lives and in some cases, has even taken them. When people are exposed to this carcinogen over an extended period of time, they typically develop some sort of health condition without even realizing they were being put at risk.

Symptoms Related with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma

Non-Hodgkins lymphoma can cause a variety of symptoms, such as:

*Painless lymph nodes in specific body parts

*Nighttime sweating

*Chest pain and abdominal swelling

*Weight loss that is unexplainable

Drilling Down to Excellence with Quarterback Training

Posted By Ricci Russell on @ 4:56 am
by Masina II

There is no more important a position in football than the quarterback, this is true at all levels of the game. The quarterback is arguably the most important player on any sports team. Therefore it is of the utmost importance that you keep your quarterbacks playing to the best of their ability, and you can do this by using drills to improve their skills.

Basic quarterback drills are always important, but there especially important at a young age. This is when habits are formed and basic skills are remembered for the long haul as hardened techniques.

The first is ball handling. Have your passer take a football in his hand, and move it in a circle over his head; the goal here is to build muscle memory for how the football moves with your player’s body. Have him move it around his shoulders, around his back, and between his knees and legs. Have an assistant watch the quarterback and call for change ups, to simulate the trick of keeping ahold of the ball when circumstances change, like when a defender is rushing straight at him.

You can make this more challenging by having another player or a coach walking around the player or running at the player and trying to swipe the ball out of his hands. The purpose of this drill is to instill ball control and comfort with handling the ball.

Another basic drill you can use to teach your quarterback is the essential handoff drill. This basic skill is of huge importance but is often overlooked and therefore never learned properly. Stand behind your quarterback as a running back would and have your quarterback practice turning around and hanging you the ball. The ball should be placed firmly into your stomach where your arms are ready to hold it.

Moving from the handoff you can then practice more difficult hand offs and tosses, such as reverses, sweeps and pitches. These are harder and take more time to learn, but it’s all about getting the practice in. Be sure to do each movement a sufficient amount of times, as your quarterback will need solid reps in to build that muscle memory and mental aptitude to be able to confidently perform each move when it’s game time.

Another great drill for your quarterbacks will help improve their core body strength and flexibility, while teaching throwing mechanics and form. You can have two of your quarterbacks work on this together, or you can have a quarterback work with a coach. Facing each other at a distance of about ten yards, each player is on one knee with a ball at their opposite foot. The player has to pick up the ball and complete a full throwing motion to accurately complete a pass to the other player.

When doing this drill, emphasize technique over power. Lead with the elbow, pointing with the wrist so proper kinematics can guide the football, and bringing the ball all the way up to the ear before releasing. This should run 20 to 30 passes, then switching knees. After two weeks of this drill, your players should have developed enough flexibility in the torso that they can do it with both knees down, driving the ball with their core strength.

Discover Carpal Tunnel Exercises That Will Improve Your Life

Posted By Tom Nicholson on @ 4:53 am
by Tom Nicholson

When you start thinking about carpal tunnel exercises, you are probably sitting in a nice, comfortable chair turning and twisting your wrists. After a certain amount of time, these exercises will become boring and monotonous due to the fact that they are not challenging at all. You definitely do not want any of the pain that comes from the carpal tunnel.

You should most likely think about adding a little spice to your routine. As you become more proficient in these exercises, you may want to expand your exercises to tone other parts of your body and not just work out your wrists.

The one thing you should know about this first exercise is that it may look a little unorthodox. The thing you must do is to put your hands together just like you are about to say a prayer. Your fingers should be kept straight and you should bring your hands down just like you are beginning to say a prayer. Your fingers should be kept straight and you hands should be brought down to sit even with your elbows. Press the bottom of each of your hands together and hold that position for a few seconds. As you continue to do this, you will notice resistance on the bottom parts of your hands to the right or the left. Now you are to hold each position for a few seconds. This is the place where you will begin to feel the resistance in your forearms, inside of your elbows and a slight stretch in your shoulders.

Back & Arm Exercise

Besides the carpal tunnel exercises being beneficial, these exercises have various ways to come to the aid of other areas in the body as well as with your forearms and wrists. A prime example of this is the back and arm exercise. In the beginning, give yourself a big hug. You should make sure that each hand is put on the appropriate shoulder. You do not want to overlap your elbows that much. This will be explained momentarily.

The Forearm and Wrist Twist

Out of all of the exercises for carpal tunnel, the exercise that is the most interesting is the forearm and wrist twist. If people were to look at you, they would think that you were not even exercising. However, this exercise is definitely helping. Try to do this article correctly. You will first want to open your hand as if you were going to high-five someone. You should then put your hand up against the wall. You may first feel a strain in your fingers which is normal. Hold on as there is more to come with this exercise.

The Behind the Back Interlock

More to Come There are myriads of exercises for carpal tunnel that can be of assistance in the prevention and alleviation of pain that you feel as was previously mentioned in this article. You should try to form a habit to do these exercises at least three times a day. How can you find the time to do this? Try to do them in between the time you spend at your work desk and also you should continue doing these exercises at home. You will see that you will get more work done at your work desk as well as doing these exercises at home. These exercises for the carpal tunnel will help you get more work done in a shorter time period. These exercises will also eliminate the stressful moments that you may experience throughout the day.

This is one of the great carpal tunnel exercises because it not only works the hands, wrists, and forearms, but also the shoulders, back and chest. There isn’t a lot of strain either, so you can do several of these throughout the day. However, just doing one of these exercises will help to relieve some of that pain and eventually subside the problem. If you still feel pain after about a week we suggest you seek medical attention.

Is Hypnotherapy All That It Claims To Be?

Posted By George Haley on @ 4:45 am
by George Haley

If someone were to bring up the topic hypnotherapy, would you roll your eyes or listen with intrigue? Many people would roll their eyes and say that hypnotherapy is just a scam for people who couldnt become doctors to get rich. There are other people who will testify to how real hypnotherapy is and how well it really works. If youre sitting on the fence about this subject, its high time you learned some facts about hypnotherapy that just might help you decide if its real or a scam.

Defining Hypnotherapy Hypnotherapy deals with the subconscious mind. This is the part of the mind that makes you breathe and keeps your heart beating. To understand what hypnotherapy is, its best to understand what it isnt. So what isnt hypnotherapy? Its not a means for someone to take control of your mind. Actually, hypnotherapy is when someone helps you to obtain control over your own mind.

What hypnotherapy does is make you relax and concentrate to overcome the fear, habit, etc. Hypnotherapy allows you to focus on just this one thing while staving off the 50 other things you may be thinking about.

An example of what hypnotherapy strives to do is to break a habit. A habit is defined as something done repetitively without thought (subconsciously). Hypnotherapy will help your mind focus on just that habit, where that habit resorted from and how to find a way to overcome that habit.

Understanding What Hypnotherapy Is Used For Hypnotherapy isnt a means for curing everything that is fearful or a habit in your life. Hypnotherapy is used to control the subconscious mind. Anything being controlled by the subconscious mind can be helped by hypnotherapy. How? Remember that hypnotherapy allows your body to relax so that your mind can understand your reactions and/or obsessions. From there, you can see how you can fix those issues within yourself and overcome the paralyzing fear or bad habit.

Discovering What Hypnotherapy Is Hypnotherapy is used to control people to do things they never thought they could before. This is a false statement. Hypnotherapy is used to help people overcome habits, fears or other subconscious ailments. This is a true statement.

Many people have been able to recover from various conditions with the help of a hypnotherapist, with far less sessions than if the person had gone to a psychologist and talked about any number of problems that could be the hidden culprit.

People who are more visual will be more susceptible to a hypnotic state. Why? The subconscious mind works with images so being visual is a stimulant to hypnotherapeutic assistance. This allows you to better see yourself overcoming your issues.

Using hypnotherapy as a means of overcoming fears, pain or other ailments of the subconscious mind can help you live your life more fully. You can overcome public speaking, flying, acting or you can be helped with arthritis pain or other pains. Some people undergo a hypnotic state to diminish pains for before, during and after surgery. A hypnotherapist isnt skilled in just one area of fear or cures but in many, if not all, areas of fear and cures.

Extract of Reishi and Inflammation

Posted By Markho Rafael on @ 4:39 am
by Dr. Markho Rafael

For over 2,000 years, Reishi extract has been used as a “cure-all” herbal remedy in Chinese Medicine, with the oldest written record of any medicinal mushroom in Shen Nong’s Herbal Classic. Although it may not be totally accurate to claim that Reishi extract cures everything, traditional as well as modern use indicates that it may be a powerful anti-inflammatory agent in a large host of conditions, including arthritis.

While researching scientific papers in preparation for this article, seventeen out of nineteen presented positive results in using Reishi extract to treat inflammatory conditions. This appears to validate the traditional use of the herb in China, where it has long been used as an analgesic, and prescribed to treat inflammation and arthritis. Only two studies out of the nineteen that are referenced for this article showed inconclusive results. Both of those studies were conducted at the same institution. (1,2)

An American study conducted in 1993 by Lin et al. concluded that a water extract of Ganoderma lucidum (Reishi) demonstrated “significant anti-inflammatory activity.” (4) A study out of India ten years later found that an extract of Reishi decreased inflammation in conditions of acute edema and chronic edema by 56% and 60%. (3) Seven additional research papers were found during the writing of this article that all concluded that Reishi is a potent anti-inflammatory medicinal mushroom. (5,6,7,8,9,10,11)

Other research has been conducted on Reishi extract that relate specifically to arthritis. In 2006, Kenneth Blum et al. published findings in support of both the effectiveness and safety of using Reishi extract for “joint health,” providing “clinical evidence” to back up their claim. (12)

Also in 2006, a paper by Xi Bao et al. concluded that Reishi in conjunction with another Chinese herbal remedy might exert a beneficial immunomodulatory effect in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. (13)

The answer as to how, precisely, Reishi extract accomplishes this “immunomodulatory effect” may have been given by another Chinese study the following year, which states that an isolated Reishi polysaccharide peptide “significantly inhibited” RASF, which is an indicator of rheumatoid arthritis. (RASF stands for “Rheumatoid Arthritis Synovial Fibroblasts.”) (14)

Five additional studies are included in the references that report positive findings between Reishi and arthritis. (15,16,17) One goes so far as to state that Reishi shows favorable results when compared to prednisone, and is free from the side effects. (18) In extension of this, a separate study also found that not only was Reishi extract free of the side effects of prednisone, it could also help balance the existing side effects of prednisolone* such as cell toxicity and proteinuria. (*Prednisolone is the active compound of prednisone. The liver breaks down prednisone and converts it to prednisolone.) (19)

In conclusion, the body of research does seem to support the use of Reishi extract in cases of arthritis. Remember that it is important to always work with a licensed medical practitioner when using any herb for medicinal purposes.

Note on name confusion: The name “Reishi” is Japanese for the perennial tree mushroom that American naturalists refer to as “Varnished Conk.” In China, it is known as “Ling Zhi.” All these names usually refer to the species Ganoderma lucidum, which for the sake of distinction from other types of Reishi may sometimes be called “Common Reishi” or “Red Reishi.”

Other species frequently referred to as Reishi include: Ganoderma tsugae (Hemlock Reishi, common on Hemlocks in Eastern U.S.), Ganoderma sinense (“Black Reishi), Ganoderma resinaceum (Red Reishi), Ganoderma japonicum (Purple Reishi) and Ganoderma neo-japonicum (no common name or simply Reishi).

The design is fairly modern leaning toward minimalist. The controls are fairly well designed and easy to use. Main drawback is the weaker warranty coverage and added expense for an extended warranty as well as the footrest not being adjustable. Otherwise, the Sanyo HEC-DR7700K has solid technology and is fairly effective in delivering relief. Hopefully, Sanyo will design more for the American market and include more ergonomic chairs in the future, but for now the HEC-DR7700K is a solid choice.

Injured: Contact a Personal Injury Lawyer

Posted By Earnes Malzen on @ 4:18 am
by Earnes Malzen

Personal Injury Lawyers work with people who have suffered at the hands of a negligent company or individual. Negligence can truly happen anywhere to anyone. For instance, maybe you were hurt in a dog attack when the dog was staying with a sitter; maybe you were electrocuted by a non-insulated wire; or maybe you received a burn while at work. Any injury or fatality can severely cripple an entire family, by putting people out of work and creating mounting medical bills that seem unending.

Professionalism, attitude and integrity, these are all things we look for when we hire someone. They should be the traits of the lawyer you hire. You could just call the first personal injury lawyer you see on a billboard and hire them, but you really should shop around. Ask the people who are most honest with you–your friends, family, or co-workers–if they know of anyone or heard anything. They can help you start your search.

Next meet the candidates. The first impression is the most important. If you feel at ease you will have a better experience. Make sure they have successfully handled cases like yours before. Talk to former clients and scope out how they were treated, how long the process went on, and how compensation worked.

Payment is the final step. Many lawyers receive payment in the event that your case is favorably settled. This means that they will receive a percentage of your winnings. Make sure to factor this into the initial amount you are asking for. Get everything in writing and make sure you understand it up front.

Most people do not wish to seek legal action against anyone, but sometimes it is the only way. Bills pile up and income does not always come in when there are severe injuries or death due to negligence. Minnesota’s injury lawyers know what you have been through and they are there for you.

Why Boast MMR As Single Vaccinations

Posted By Kate Gerbich on @ 4:12 am
by Kate Gerbich

The MMR vaccine is an injection that prevents you from catching the following three diseases. Measles can cause ear infections, pneumonia, fits and inflammation of the brain. Sometimes it may prove fatal to life. Mumps can cause meningitis, which can cause deafness. It may cause inflammation of the pancreas, nausea and vomiting. Rubella, also called German measles, causes heart damage, blindness, deafness and brain damage. It can also lead to miscarriage.

Solo vaccines are suggested less frequently as compared to joint vaccines. There are quantities of reasons why the vaccines aren’t given separately. Singles vaccines put more lives at risk therefore; they are not licensed in the UK and have not passed the protection test. Single vaccines would show to be less efficient than MMR. Furthermore, single vaccines are not verified to be safe and preventive. A single dose MMR vaccination has been found to cause autism and provocative bowel disease.

Alternatively, MMR single vaccinations have quite a lot of other reward which develop a craving for acceptance rather. A bulky number of people desire to have solo dose vaccinations attributable to the fact that a single dose is simple to gain as compared to that of combined vaccines. Separate dose vaccines have to be given over a longer time span.

Time is not the single cause; the offspring suffer a throbbing effect every time they are vaccinated as a result of elongated gaps between every dose it might befall possible that smaller amount children attain the full course. This leads to the fact that they are left unprotected against the diseases. Between wide intervals children may become vulnerable and catch measles, mumps, or rubella. They will transfer the germs to the other children who are still pending any vaccination. The most dicey age to catch measles is under one year.

Kids who are not vaccinated adjacent to MMR will be more liable to the disease. Several ten years back, about half of the deaths of kids were caused because of measles, but subsequent to the children have started vaccines, the death rate due to measles has almost ended. Some children do get side effects. However, these are very exceptional after the first dose and even less probable after the second. Side-effects of the vaccine are generally mild and, most considerably, they are milder than the potentially serious consequences of having measles, mumps or rubella.

The mother of a defenceless youngster is as well at a high jeopardy of easily spread the disease. Expecting women are the most exposed owing to their insecure children. If the kids get an MMR single vaccination, the risk of catching the disease in the surrounding people will reduce to less than half.

The MMR vaccine may also be available to young people when they leave school or before they enter further education if they haven’t already had both doses. There may be more hindrance before being completely vaccinated, leaving children at risk of infection from the diseases for longer.

If a person has received a solo dose of individual or more of the monovalent vaccines-to be exact, the solitary measles, mumps, or rubella vaccine-in addition to a second dosage of vaccine is needed; they have to collect their next dose in the shape of an MMR vaccine.

Lose weight like never before

Posted By Kelly Williams on @ 4:02 am
by Kelly Williams

Contrary to popular belief, there are safe and quick ways to lose weight. But, before we discuss those, there are a few basic things that you should be aware of. These are very important if you want to have a real chance at loosing weight.

Those who don’t already exercise can benefit tremendously from starting a fitness program. If possible you should work out five days a week, but no fewer than three. Beginners can start by walking briskly.

It’s important that you drink enough water, it will help you lose weight more effectively and it will keep you hydrated. If you substitute one regular soda with a glass or bottle of water per day, you’ll save some calories. Drinking enough water will also help you feel fuller longer.

Adequate rest will allow you to keep your metabolism fired up, and it will also give you the energy for those weekly workouts. Aim for no less than seven hours of sleep per night.

Eat your veggies, and fruits too. A lot of diet plans say the same thing- because it’s time-tested advice that works. Switch to whole grain foods. Why? Fiber is an essential part of any low-calorie diet.If your diet is rich in whole grains, you’ll enjoy steady blood sugar and energy levels throughout the day. They also keep you full longer, and they are relatively low calorie.

Reduce the amount of meat you eat, and when you do eat it, choose a lean protein like fish or chicken. To further reduce fat intake, cook your meat by sauteing or grilling. Enjoying a diet with things like green tea, oatmeal, and spicy foods will naturally raise your metabolic rate.

When you’ve done these basic things, it will be much easier for you to naturally lose weight quickly. While this plan isn’t a “cure all”, it will provide steady weight loss if you stick with it.
