The Truth About Botox for Migraines

Posted By D Swain on @ 5:51 am
by D Swain

Millions of people have used botox for its ability to take away the signs of aging. Over the past couple of years, people have discovered the effects of taking botox for migraines.

Although medical professionals do not know exactly know why taking botox can reduce the frequency and severity of painful headaches, it is recently being used more and more as an alternative to other prescription medications. This article will discuss how botox for migraines works and the advantages and disadvantages of this treatment method.

How it Works

Truth be told, there is no definitive conclusion as to how botox for migraines works. Muscle tension and spasms are one of the main causes of headaches. Some medical professionals speculate that the botox relieves migraines because it relaxes the injected muscle. Another major cause of headaches is a higher level of signals transmitted by the nerves. In this scenario, professionals think botox for migraines works by stopping the transmission of nerve cells.

Advantages

There are a few advantages of taking botox for migraines instead of prescription medications. Most prescribed medications have moderate to severe side effects when taken to treat pain from migraines. The most common side effects include nausea, dizziness, and muscle weakness.

The advantage of botox for migraines is that there are no major side effects. Another benefit is that the treatment lasts for longer periods of time. The average treatment lasts for a period of three months before another injection is required.

Disadvantages

Taking botox for migraines is very beneficial, but it is not without its disadvantages. For most people, the biggest disadvantage is the cost. A single injection of botox for migraines can cost anywhere from $350 to $500. This is the cost per targeted area. Although there are no major side effects of this treatment, it is possible for the injection site to bruise and turn black or blue. This condition usually only lasts for five to ten days after treatment before it heals. This is normally not a major concern as it can easily be covered up by makeup.

Botox for migraines is quickly becoming the preferred method of dealing with painful headaches. The advantages of this treatment are that it lasts for several months and do not cause the side effects of other migraine medications. Unfortunately, the cost of botox for migraines makes it unavailable for many people. You should also be aware that there is a slight chance of the injection site becoming bruised, but this only lasts for a couple of days.

All About Botox Treatments

Posted By Amy Mullen on @ 5:19 am
by Amy Mullen

These days, if you’d like to give your face a boost, you don’t need to resort to surgical facelifts. Surgery used to be the only option a woman had if she wanted a more youthful appearance. This type of surgery did help, but it often left behind nerve damage. The result of this surgery tended to distort the face a bit, especially around the eyes, leaving it obvious a facelift had been performed.

Today many opt for Botox injections rather than risk surgery. Botox is faster and less expensive. With Botox, the pain, expense, and healing periods associated with surgery are gone or greatly reduced.

Please note this article is only a guide. Your doctor is best qualified to offer you any advice or information about Botox treatments.

What is Botox?

Botox is a toxin that comes from Clostridium botulinum, which is a bacterium. This bacterium is the very same substance that causes the food illness botulism. It sounds scary, but in reality the toxin is purified before use, and is used in very tiny and safe amounts. Just enough is used to help smooth out your face without any danger to you.

What Does It Do?

Muscles under your skin move together to control all facial movement. When these muscles tighten under the skin, wrinkles are formed. When you receive an injection, the Botox works on the nerves and muscles at the injection point. In essence, the Botox causes these muscles to become paralyzed. Because these muscles cannot move to form winkles, your skin stays smooth.

Where Can It Be Used?

Botox is used most extensively around the eyes. It helps to erase forehead lines, crow’s feet and other furrows that may appear near and around the eyes. It can be used around the mouth in limited instances, because you don’t want the muscles around your lips to be constrained. It has more recently been used to help with neck lifts.

What To Expect

Botox can be administered rather quickly. Most office visits for injections take less than a half an hour. Your doctor will seat you and the work area may be numbed for you. He or she will then proceed to mark the exact areas for the injections and administer them. The procedure is slightly painful but the sensations clear up rather quickly in most people. You can return to your day as soon as you step out of the office, no lengthy recuperation needed.

How often you need to get repeat injections will depend on the location and severity of your wrinkles. Repeated treatments may cause the muscles to permanently lie in a state of inactivity, lessening the treatments, or possibly eliminating them altogether.

Side Effects and Risks

Occasionally you will experience slight bruising. This should clear up very quickly. Other times, if too much Botox is injected, you may find other muscles will not work properly. This is very rare, and if it happens, usually not serious. Discuss these risks in depth with your doctor.

About Your Doctor

Ask for recommendations when choosing a doctor to perform Botox. Your best bet might be to ask your family doctor for a recommendation. You should note the cleanliness of the facility and don’t be afraid to ask as many questions as come to mind. Disclose all medical conditions and medications you are taking to your doctor before you have the procedure.

Wrap Up

Medicine has come a long way in the quest for eternal youth. You don’t have to suffer through a facelift anymore to look and feel years younger. If your deep lines and wrinkles bother you, don’t be afraid to talk to your doctor about your alternatives.

Best Wrinkle Creams Versus Botox Injections

Posted By Sean Saunders on @ 5:12 am
by Sean Saunders

Did you know that botox injections are not near as effective nor as safe as many of the best wrinkle creams out there? Well, its true. Not only that that, but botox injections aren’t even permanent. An injection must be done every couple of months in order for you to maintain youthful, wrinkle free skin.

Is that all that’s bad about botox injections? Unfortunately, no; the “con” list goes on and on. Here is a small part of that list and a few of the “negative” things that accompany botox injections. After going through this list, you decide whether you should use botox or if you should stick to using the best wrinkle creams.

Unlike most wrinkle creams, which can be used on any facial region, botox can only be used on incredibly limited regions of the face. Just a minuscule 5% of our face can be treated with botox.

Being injected with botox means being injected with a bacterial neurotoxin known as botulinum. Many botox users don’t know this, but botulinum is actually one of the most poisonous substances known to man. In fact, when exposed to large amounts of this deadly poison, death CAN be the result.

After receiving botox injections, it’s possible that the skin adjacent to the injected area may actually become more wrinkled.

If botox injections are done regularly to areas of the face, damage may occur to both the skin and the nerves.

Unlike the best wrinkle creams, botox addresses ONE and ONLY ONE aspect of facial “restoration”; motion wrinkles. The injection will not help with age spots, finelines, crows feet, sun damage, under eye bags, or any of the other signs of aging. So even after the injection, you’ll still be left with lots of work to do.

As mentioned earlier, Botox injections are in no way permanent. Most users find that their wrinkles come back within a mere 3-6 months after each injection. This might not mean much to someone with thousands & thousands of dollars to burn, but to the average joe on a budget, $700-$800 per treatment is no drop in the bucket.

So, are these 6 facts enough to convince you that botox really isn’t the best choice for facial rejuvenation? For your sake, I hope so. If it isn’t enough to sway you, then perhaps you need to do some research on the best wrinkle creams on the market. If the facts about anti wrinkle cream don’t change your mind, nothing will!

How to Survive Your First Botox Treatment

Posted By Sabah Karimi on @ 5:04 am
by Sabah Karimi

Botox injections are the ultimate solution for millions of Americans who yearn for their youthful looks, and for those who are ready to say goodbye to wrinkles. The botox procedure itself is quick, efficient, and will have you in and out of the office during your lunch break. Hollywood isn’t the only consumer of botox treatments, and it’s quickly becoming one of the most popular cosmetic rejuvenation procedures around the world. If you’ve decided it’s time for your crow’s feet and wrinkles to disappear, a botox injection (or two) awaits; here’s how to survive your first botox treatment:

1. Skip the beer and wine for seven days. You’ll need to give up all forms of alcohol for at least seven days prior to your botox treatment so that you won’t be all bruised up from the process. Anti-inflammatory drugs are also off limits.

2. Don’t take aspirin for headaches. Headaches are common after treatment, and usually subside within 24-48 hours.

3. Stay busy right after treatment. While you don’t necessarily have to go back to work, you do need to keep your head in an upright position for at least 4 hours. The treatment needs to ’stay put’ and set into your muscles properly; this means no lying down or resting your head.

4. Put on your poker face. Funny faces, a surprise reaction, or simply laughing too hard can make it difficult for your treatment to set properly. Avoid the movies, visiting friends, or any activity that will make you frown or laugh.

5. Don’t think about the needle. Since the botox treatment is so quick an deficient, no anesthesia is applied to the patient. You’ll probably experience a slight pinch from the injection, but it’s usually not any more painful than having your blood drawn.

6. Don’t expect overnight results. The treatment will set in within 24 hours, but you won’t see any major effects until 72 hours later. In some cases, the effects won’t show up until a week later, so be prepared for a few changes in the days ahead.

7. Be prepared for side effects. Botox treatments that are injected in the wrong area can lead to dangerous complications. Watch out for side effects including a droopy eyelid, nausea, eye twitching, muscle weakness, and general facial pain. While some of these clear up in a few days, others may turn into long-term health problems.

8. Try homeopathy for pain. If you do experience swelling, discomfort, and general facial pain right after treatment, try applying arnica, a natural ointment/salve that can reduce inflammation and help heal wounds.

Ingrown Pubic Hair: Advice Notes For Immediate Relief

Posted By Mike Jones on April 29, 2009 @ 3:37 am
by Mike Jones

Ingrown pubic hairs can be very painful. The advice notes below will cure the problem quickly and greatly help reduce the risk in the future!

Let’s first get some background to this problem. The proper name for ingrown hair is Psuedofolliculitis Barbae (PFB). They can also be referred to as shaving bumps, hair bumps, razor burn, razor bumps, or just simply ingrowns.

Psuedofolliculitis Barbae refers to hair which has been cut or broken off below the skin level which then begins to grow through surrounding tissue rather than out of the follicle. In other cases, hair curls round and starts growing back into the skin causing irritation and inflammation.

Shaving removes the natural tapered end of a hair making it sharp and capable of cutting through skin. This is what happens sometimes so the sharp hair penetrates surrounding skin causing irritation.

Also remember the skin around the pubic area can be more sensitive than skin on other parts of the body. This makes it more susceptible to ingrown hair as hair removal methods such as shaving, waxing, or sugaring, can easily leave a skin reaction and contribute to problems when hair regrows.

Ingrown pubic hair cure and prevention advice notes

For ingrown pubic hairs along the bikini line, hold a hot compress against ingrown spots for ten minutes three times a day to soften the skin and help the hairs work their way out.

Wear loose-fitting underwear and clothing until the bumps are gone to avoid friction. In the future, be sure not to wear tight clothing after a hair removal session. The tight fit can irritate the skin and cause hair to regrow at unusual angles, sometimes through the side of the hair follicle causing an ingrown pubic hair.

Before waxing you might try exfoliating the skin. This removes dead skin cells which can build up on the skin and cause a problem with trapped hairs.

To carry out exfoliation, you might want to invest in a cream or lotion or body gel. Alternatively, a slightly abrasive washcloth or glove can be used as these are designed with exfoliation in mind. You can problem get any of these at your local department store in the beauty or cosmetic department.

Do not exfoliate the skin if you already have ingrown pubic hairs as further skin irritation may result.

If you use wax or sugar solutions you need to develop the skill of taking the hair out by the root and avoid breaking it below the skin surface. Some prefer to go to a beauty salon and have pubic hair removal performed by a professional.

For ingrown hairs which are deep, sterilize a pair of needle-nosed tweezers with rubbing alcohol and individually lift each ingrown hair out of its follicle. Wipe the area with alcohol afterwards and shave.

If needle-nosed tweezers are not available, wipe a pin or needle and the ingrown area with rubbing alcohol, then carefully release the hair in the direction that it grows using the tip of the needle only. After the hair is released, wipe the skin with alcohol again.

Pubic hair removal is now very common for both men and women. For this reason ingrown pubic hair will always be a risk after hair has been pulled out or cut off through shaving. Use the advice notes above and cure the condition immediately and use the preventative measures to avoid the problem in the future.

Three Reasons Why Skin Care Matters

Posted By Rachel Greene on April 9, 2009 @ 5:16 am
by Rachel Greene

The skin care routine that you have is not just about removing make-up in a perfunctory way, it can actually mean the difference between skin that looks good and that is healthy and skin that is prone to problems. It is important, therefore, to get into good habits here and to regularly cleanse, tone and moisturize your skin to keep it in the best possible condition.

Doing this will bring you a range of benefits, including:

#1 Healthy looking skin — a good skin care routine will simply make your skin look better and will give you a healthy look. Your aim here should be to protect your skin against the rigors of your everyday life. This isn’t just about cleaning off make-up — even if you don’t normally use cosmetics or only use them sparingly your skin will get ‘dirty’ just by being outside. Think about the effects of traffic fumes and the weather for example. So your skin care routine should clean and protect your skin as much as possible to keep it looking healthy. #2 Young looking skin — like our bodies our skin deteriorates with age but a good skin care routine can help slow down the ageing process here. This will simply make your skin look and feel much better. As we get older, for example, our skin loses some of its elasticity so your skin care routine should look to put some of this back to make sure that your skin looks as supple and smooth as possible. #2 Problem free skin — if you don’t take care of your skin then the world will soon know about it! Not taking care of your skin by cleansing it and protecting it from adverse conditions will soon show. You’ll be more prone to zits and blemishes and you may even find that you start to suffer from specific skin complaints and unsightly areas such as patches of dry skin.

Your skin care routine doesn’t have to take up much time or cost the earth in terms of the skin care products that you buy. Most people find that cleansing, toning and moisturizing once a day and doing some deeper cleansing and moisturizing work maybe once a week will help them out here.

The benefits of doing this can simply make you look better. If your skin is blooming then you’ll look healthier and this can make you feel better about yourself. There’s no worse way to start the day, after all, than to look in the mirror and to see grey lifeless skin that is full of spots!

And, remember, the way you look has a bearing on how people react to you in your everyday life. If you look like you don’t take care of your skin then people could have a negative perception about you. On the other hand if your skin looks healthy and well cared for they are more likely to take a positive view. As the saying goes, beauty really is often skin deep!

Which Foods Cause Eczema

Posted By Lucille Green on March 31, 2009 @ 4:09 am
by Lucille Green

Numerous people believe they have discovered the cure for eczema but that is not the case, as yet, but the result in of eczema is in all probability related to the body’s own immune system. There are a number of things that can start an episode of eczema and these will vary from one individual to another. For the sufferer, putting up with the red rash that itches must be bad enough but the skin can become unsightly as well as painful. Unfortunately, for affected individuals who have a more bad form of eczema, the skins surface can become blistered and bleeds often becoming so bad that the skins surface cracks.

Over the years many eczema remedies have been tried and claimed to be a remedy for eczema but even today while there are numerous interventions, it is still a matter of trial error to find one that works for each person. Because it is connected with the immune system, some individuals believe that the immune system needs to be strengthened by the use of a healthy well balance diet. This idea stems from the belief that often the all the body requires is good nutrition and not medical intervention.

An eczema flare up often signifies a lack in Vitamin A, especially beta carotene which is believed to be a major contributing component in a cure for eczema. This important nutrient is found in numerous green vegetables and because eczema is considered an immune-disorder, having a diet that contains more green vegetables would be a healthy remedy for eczema.

The more holistic the cure for eczema is the better for the person as those will not interfere with the body as chemical based solutions, nor will they make the disorder worse. Often antihistamines are used as an eczema relief but it is possible for them to interfere with the bodies histamine output causing an adverse effect and making the disorder worse so it is worth checking the possible results before they are used. Creams purported to be a cure for eczema are often just very good moisturizers which can be used to help prevent and reduce the eczema disorder.

Often using steroids like hydrocortisone cream as cure for eczema is efficient; however, use it with caution as the best remedy for eczema is prevention and that means finding out what you are allergic to and avoid it. Some sufferers swear by herbal reliefs and that they are a remedy for eczema because they only hold holistic components. One such holistic remedy is sorbelene moisturizing application which meats the requirements of the eczema sufferer using natural elements like avocado oil, oatmeal paste and herbs.

Ground oatmeal can be added to a bath as a natural remedy for eczema as it is claimed to be a wonderful way to treat mild to bad eczema. If you bath in tepid water on a continual basis you should put a emollient or application on while you are still damp as it will seal the moisture in, helping to relieve the dryness. Oatmeal is known to relieve itchy skin surface thus allowing the already damaged and inflamed skin time to heal but other studies refute the use of bathing, suggesting that a lukewarm shower is preferable as too much water aggravates the condition.

If you have lip wrinkles, you know that they can be very ugly and annoying. You might feel very self-conscious about them. You aren’t alone, though. Lots of people develop wrinkles around their lips. It happens naturally, as people get older.

One major thing you need to know about lip wrinkles is that smoking can really make them worse. In fact, smoking can make all your wrinkles worse. That’s because the skin of a smoker ages much faster than the skin of a non-smoker. So, the best way to keep your wrinkles under control is to quit smoking or never start.

The cause of your lip wrinkles is probably much less important to you than how to treat them, although both things are important to know. When it comes to treatment options, though, just keep in mind that wrinkles around your lips can and should be treated with the same methods you might use for any other wrinkles on your face.

A good starting point, when you are thinking about lip wrinkle treatment, is actually pretty simple. Keep your lips moist and protected from the sun. Hydration is very important, as is sun protection. Remember that your lips and the area around them are skin, too. Don’t just put sun protection on the rest of your body.

You’re probably familiar with exfoliation, or the process of removing dead skin cells. Lots of people exfoliate their face. Well, you should do the same for your lips. They build up dead skin cells, too, after all.

Seeking A Doctor’s Advice:

Botox and Collagen treatments are one of the many treatment types that you could think about using to get rid of your lip wrinkles. They can give you much fuller looking lips and get rid of lines and wrinkles. Such treatments are becoming incredibly common lately.

Just keep in mind the trouble that Botox and collagen treatments can cause on a long-term basis. They aren’t one-time fixes. If you want them to be effective, you are probably going to want to go back for more treatments over and over again. So, you need to plan to set both time and money aside for continuous treatments.

Botox and collagen treatments aren’t the only way to cure lip wrinkling, of course. In fact, there are hundreds of creams and lotions on the market today that claim to cure wrinkles. Some work and some don’t. Some only work on certain skin types, too. So, it can be hard to know which will work best for you.
