The Biggest Fan

Posted By Twyla on April 26, 2008 @ 10:35 am

I have always been a huge fan of Jane Austen. I remember the first time I ever read Sense and Sensibility. It was the first time I was absolutely in love with a book. That was before I read Emma, which is my all-time favorite book in the world. She is such a romantic author and I can see myself as a character in her stories.

Last year for my birthday, my husband arranged for me and my girlfriend to go on one of those Jane Austen tours and it was so amazing. I had the best time and I truly think that she is one of the most brilliant and inspiring people that ever lived.

I hope to go again one day, but for now I am content to read and reread her books, so that I can fall in love all over again. One thing is for sure and that is the fact that I will always be her biggest fan.

A Great Buy

Posted By Twyla on April 25, 2008 @ 10:27 am

When I was shopping for clothes for the kids in a consignment store close out, I saw a whole bunch of Halloween costumes that were on sale for next to nothing. I thought that my kids would have a lot of fun playing dress up with them, so I bought the whole lot and took them home.

When we were going through them I was surprised to see some really unique ones among the bunch. There were a few mythical creatures, some rock stars and even a George Jetson costume. There were a lot of homemade ones that I know someone had to have put a lot of effort into and my kids loved them.

I was grateful that I was not going to have to make costumes for the kids for years to come and they could basically be whatever they wanted to be. It was one of the greatest consignment store purchases that I have ever made.

Guys and Channel Surfing

Posted By Deb Gallardo on April 24, 2008 @ 10:20 pm

You can learn a lot about a guy by his channel surfing. It never fails, just when I get interested in something, he moves on. Once my ex-husband (who still has custody of the remote, just not the TV) stopped on a documentary about Middle Eastern “magicke.” The film demonstrated how magick talismans and magick amulets & charms are created. I was fascinated that people believed these things worked.

And then wouldn’t you know it, just when a shaman was about to demonstrate some magick spells & rituals, my husband said, “The commercial should be done by now” and he changed the channel back to his stupid basketball game!

If I ever remarry, I’m going to insist on a DVR. On cold, rainy afternoons I’ll curl up next to him with my laptop in companionable silence. I’ll look up and show interest in his channel flipping. And then confiscate the remote when he’s not looking.

Giving Him a Better Chance

Posted By Twyla on @ 9:15 am

I have always been a firm believer that you get farther in life if you know more than one language.  When it was time for my first child to start school I knew that I would be looking into enrolling him into one of the good UK language schools.

At the time, we were deciding what we thought his second language should be so we decided to contact language schools UK to find out what was offered.  We spoke to the principal of one of the prestigious schools there and he did a very good job on helping us decide what would be best for our son.

We got him enrolled and thus far, we have not regretted our decision one bit.  He is doing exceptionally well and is not having problems learning in any language at all.  I am share that this will give him an advantage when he enters the job world as he will be able to service to different kinds of people.

Flying Solo Works for Me

Posted By Twyla on April 23, 2008 @ 3:16 am

If there is one thing I hate about college more than any other thing it was the sociology essay that I had to write during my first year as a student.  The essay itself was not so bad, but we were partnered up, and my partner was a cool complete loser.  I did about 90% of the work and only got 50% of the credit.

I figured that since there was two of us working on this particular arts essay, that it would be so much easier than anything I had to do for any of my other classes.  Boy was I wrong.  It ended up my life being time-consuming, as I had to do the persons share of the work, we did not end up with a good grade anyhow.

When it came time to start my management essay, we were given the choice of working on our own or with a partner.  It wasn’t much of a choice for me at all, as I had been burned on the whole partner than once before.  I was definitely flying this one solo.

Getting a Second Degree Online

Posted By admin on April 22, 2008 @ 11:33 pm

Even though I have been working on a degree while attending college, I thought that I could maybe get another degree that complements the one I am working on.  I have been taking my education degree, so I thought that a math degree would be a perfect match for it.

But, I know that the math program at my college is one of the worst in the country, and that is definitely not what I want to do.  So, I have been looking at getting an online bachelors degree from Virginia College Online.

From all the reviews that I have read about their college, they are very highly regarded and even offer the best Health care degrees online out of all of the colleges in the country.

I feel that they would be a great match for the goals I have for my second degree and I have requested more information about their course offerings.  Who knows, I might find myself needing to study during the summer.

How to Take Care of Shoes

Posted By admin on April 21, 2008 @ 4:22 pm

I have been looking for some information on what I should be doing to ensure proper shoe storage.  You see, my wife has a lot of shoes, and I want to make sure that I don’t have to replace them.  With the amount of money that I have spent, no invested, in her shoes, I want them to last as long as possible.

So, I have been looking online to see if there is such a thing as a shoe storage unit.  I figured that there should be something available because there seems to be specialized storage devices for pretty much anything you can think of, and I could see a demand for shoe storage.

After looking for a couple of hours, I was able to find a company that sold shoe storage units.  I have ordered a few of them to try out, and if they are successful, I can see myself ordering more of them.  It will be nice to know that with proper storage, that I should be able to extend the life of her shoes and save myself money over the long run.

Learning About Shopping Cart Options

Posted By admin on @ 11:05 am

We own a small hardware store in town and we have been thinking of setting up an e-commerce storefront to create extra opportunities for us to generate income.  Our store does very well on its’ own, but we thought that some extra income would give us the money we need to expand the shop.

Since we really didn’t know what we needed, we sent out tenders to a few local website consultation firms to see what they would suggest.  We thought by getting multiple opinions on what type of online shopping cart software we should be using, we could choose the best option for us.

The company that presented to us today showed us the best ecommerce shopping cart software that is on the market right now.  I was very impressed with the presentation and script presented to us, and we will definitely consider it for our final choice.

Throwing Away the Papers from This Term

Posted By admin on April 20, 2008 @ 6:53 am

It will be so nice to clean up my desk after a finish writing my last final on Monday.  Once finals are over, and usually throw away all my dissertations that I wrote during the past term so that all the clutter will be gone for my desk and I will be ready for summer classes.

The only paper that I won’t be throwing away will be my research proposal and the thesis that I wrote based on that proposal.  I am amazed that I wrote such an amazing piece of work and I would be sad if I threw it out.

I think I will use the thesis as an inspiration in the future should I have writer’s block or the feeling that I just can’t write anything good.  When I read through the paper, it is inspiring to see that someone like me crafted those words so masterfully.  It also helps that there’s a big A+ on the last page with the comment "This is the best work I have seen all term".

If that isn’t inspiring, I don’t know what is.

Always Getting Sidetracked

Posted By Twyla on April 19, 2008 @ 11:49 pm

While I was during research for a big history essay at the library, I got a little bit sidetracked and ended up reading a whole bunch of stuff that did not pertain to my history essay at all.  This doesn’t usually bother me, but I just didn’t have time for right now.

When I finally realized what I was doing I decided that I would just check out some of the items and read them when I had time.  There was one particular law essay that I really wanted to read as it was about a case that I have followed very closely.

I was really lucky to even finish my essay on time as I had spent more time goofing off and being distracted than I actually spent working on my assignment.  Oh well, I am about the only person in my class who wrote it for real, as most of them handed in a custom essay.
